Hi, After doing some updates to my 64-bit SuSE 10, I've been getting errors relating to the resurce manager. Here is a snippet of the syslogs, with some messages which may not be related to this problem: ------------SNIP------------------- Jan 4 17:41:38 presario rcpowersaved: enter 'powernow_k8' into CPUFREQD_MODULE in /etc/sysconfig/powersave/cpufreq. Jan 4 17:41:38 presario rcpowersaved: this will speed up starting powersaved and avoid unnecessary warnings in syslog. Jan 4 17:41:41 presario ifup: No configuration found for sit0 Jan 4 17:41:45 presario kdm: :0[4914]: resmgr: unable to connect to resmgrd: Connection refused Jan 4 17:41:45 presario kdm: :0[4914]: resmgr login failed Jan 4 17:41:45 presario hp: unable to open /var/run/hpiod.port: No such file or directory: prnt/hpijs/hplip_api.c 75 Jan 4 17:42:04 presario kmixctrl [kdeinit] --restore: resmgr: unable to connect to resmgrd: Connection refused [Repeated many more times with the same time stamp] Jan 4 17:42:08 presario kmix [kdeinit] -session 10d1e4cee2000112928105400000072270018_1136398588_419759: resmgr: unable to connect to resmgrd: Connection refused [Repeated many more times with the same timestamp] ---------------------------END OF SNIPPET-------------------------------------- When my KDE starts up, it tells me that the powersaved dæmon is not running (while I am quite certain it actually is running) and that I should start it for better performance. Can somebody make sense out of all this? Could this affect ALSA and the sharing of the sound card? TIA. Gus Fantanas
Hi, Hmm, interesting...I think I've got this behaviour on my machine too. Whenever I start my machine I frequently see that ResMgr failed to load. The system proceeds to boot up and gets to mounting my NFS drives then before actually reporting whether it was successful or not, switches to run level 5 (i.e. the login GUI) - to me it seems like the last bit of the boot up progressed too fast (?). If I then login, I frequently get the message that powersaved is not loaded, again it's alomst like the system hasn't had time to finish all its initialisation. For me, I guess it's probably down to a backgrounded mount of NFS drives that are stopping other things from happening. HTH, Jon Constantine 'Gus' Fantanas wrote:

Can somebody make sense out of all this? Could this affect ALSA and the sharing of the sound card? TIA.
