SuSE v9 64 bit for AMD - Serial ATA (VT8237) solution
Hi, In many threads one describes the problems they have with SuSE v9 64 bit for AMD with Serial ATA drives. These drives are not recognised. In my case I have an ASUS SK8V mainboard with K8T800 and VT8237 chipset. The problem is that the module libata isn't loaded at boottime, so Serial ATA controllers will not be recognized. I've created a new DVD that supports Serial ATA by changing the contents of it's boot directory and a 'patch' to be installed after the normal installation. The 'patch' consists of a kernel that supports Serial ATA. This kernel can be updated as normal as long as the contents of /etc/sysconfig/kernel aren't changed according to the INITRD_MODULES parameter. The modules named in the string should be included in a newly created initrd. If anyone wants to download the files to make you own DVD just let me know, and I'll send you the information needed to download the files from my FTP-server. Peter
