OpenOffice x86_64 no Java Virtual Machine found
I'm running - SUSE 10.1 x86_64 - OpenOffice.org 2.0.3-1 (Suse Packages) - and SUN's Java 1.5.0_07 (Suse Update Packages). When I run OpenOffice and go to Extras->Options->OpenOffice.org->Java there are no JVMs listed. When I manually try to add the 1.5.0_07 JRE located at /usr/lib64/jvm/java-1.5.0-sun-1.5.0_07/jre OpenOffice complains, that no JRE was found at this path :( Is this a bug? Can't the x86_64 version of OpenOffice detect the x86_64 JVM? The JRE is definitely installed at that location (/usr/lib64/jvm/java-1.5.0-sun-1.5.0_07/jre) !!! Can anbody at least confirm this problem? Regards, Jörg

Are you *sure* you have an x86_64 version of OOo? The wiki still says the 64bit version is work in progress, of no use to non-developers. The 2.0.3 version that came with my SuSE_64 is still a 32bit binary and would, AFAIK, require a 32bit Java. Thierry

Yes, I installed these packages: ftp://ftp.gwdg.de/linux/suse/projects/OpenOffice.org/10.1-x86_64/2.0.3-1 # ps aux shows the following: /usr/lib64/ooo-2.0/program/soffice.bin private:factory/swriter So it's definitely a x86_64 version.
Don't know if this is relevant, but if OO is anything like Firefox in its taste for JREs, you have to use the 32 bit version. Apparently. I know that this was the case about a year ago, when there was no 64-Bit version of SUNs Java, but meanwhile SUNs 1.5.0 version is available as 64-Bit, too.
Is this a bug? Yes, and it has been reported. Ok.

Actually, I got mine (when I was testing it, have since gone back to the 32 bit) to recognize the 64 bit Blackdown Java 1.4.2, not sure if it is a 64 bit problem or version problem.
