Hello there: I'm planning to use SuSE 9.2 for my professional work and I plan to buy a Gigabyte 939 mobo with Amd64. I've been takin a look at Giga-byte website and found 2 choices: GA-K8NF-9 and GA-K8NXP-9 I was wondering if anyone is using this nForce4 mobos and the pros and cons of using them. The configuration would be as followin: AMD64 939 3200+ 1GB ram 2 SATA 160 GB hd (Maxtor-Seagate) 16x DL DVD+-R/+-RW dvd/cd drive (LG) nVidia Gforce 6600 PCIe 256MB Wireless Logitech ergo keyboard+mouse Sony 20 or 23 tft display Any commentaries or suggestions about these mobos will be appreciated, regarding any kind of info, nForce4 chipset, installing, network interface compatibility, PCIe support, anything... Thanks in advance. Regards.
I have a ga-k8nnxp running suse 9.1 with an amd64 2800+ cpu. Had some problems with 9.0 - possibly it was a bad HD or the bios needed upgrading. However, no problems now. Have no info about how 9.2 will do though. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Xermán Soto Fernández wrote:

I have the GA-K8NF-9 working fine on Suse9.2, except for the the video card, a XFX 6600 gt. As far as I know, there is a bug in the nvidia video drivers with pci-e and the workaround is (in the device section of your x config): use "NoRenderExtension" and "SWCursor" i.e. Section "Device" BoardName "GeForce 6600 GT" BusID "5:0:0" Driver "nvidia" Identifier "Device[0]" Option "NoRenderExtension" "true" Option "SWCursor" "true" Option "UseEdidFreqs" "true" Screen 0 VendorName "NVidia" EndSection otherwise the display will be corrupt. ( YMMV / works for me) You also have to download and install the nvidia chipset/nforce drivers and tell yast about t eth0 ( described in nforce directions) I have a Pata boot drives, and two sata drives for storage which work fine. Oh, and I had to do a text only install (not vesa), otherwise it wouldn't work (there is a video mode toggle on the boot screen) Otherwise all works well. Very snappy. copy the list, but feel free to email me for more specifics if needed. babel AT unr DOT edu Barrett On Sun, 16 Jan 2005 14:06:20 +0100, Xermán Soto Fernández <xsoto_pe@yahoo.es> wrote:
