How much physical memory does kernel-smp-2.6.5 on x86-64 support? I have 4GiB physical memory, but SLES9 x86-64 is only reporting 3.5GiB. Any way around this? -- Cameron

Far more than you can plug into any existing x86-64 board.

The problem is the BIOS, not the kernel. The kernel can only use the memory the BIOS gives it. Sometimes you can change it with BIOS options (related to "DIMM mapping"), but in some cases that leads to instable systems. -Andi
