I have a Tyan S2885 with the sil3114 onboard raid controller. I have it working under Suse 9.0. My question is will it work under 9.1? Tyan's website has a driver for up to Suse 9.0, and Silicon Image's website only has drivers up to Suse 8.2! Thanks, Joe
There's a sata_sil driver in the 2.6 kernels (and >2.4.27) that works for this chipset, so you don't need to use a 3rd party driver anymore. So yes, 9.1 will work with that chipset. That's not a given. The siimage driver will kick in first unless you disable it in the kernel. I think the word is that siimage actually works with Tyan, but there are controllers where it will not work (in which case you'd better have another controller for booting). So you might want to wait for a response from someone with a Tyan board.

I've been able to boot off harddrives attached to the SATA controller on a S2882 using 9.1. According to lspci, it lists it as: 03:05.0 Unknown mass storage controller: Silicon Image, Inc. (formerly CMD Technology Inc) Silicon Image SiI 3114 SATARaid Controller (rev 02) This is using the included sata_sil driver... Note that none of the built-in raid stuff is supported. Oho, so it does find sata_sil first on that hardware, unlike what happens with the Adaptec 3112 based card that I have. Sorry that I doubted you, but it sounded as if you were basing your reply on the documentation/code, rather than experience... -p -- O__ ---- Peter Dalgaard Blegdamsvej 3 c/ /'_ --- Dept. of Biostatistics 2200 Cph. The hw RAID I've not testet yet. All other works more as nice on all Tyan Opteron based Boards. Ready etc/sensors.config on Tyan Webside. Ciao Marco Maske!
