Dail up problem with SuSe 9.1 64 bit
Hi I am using Compaq R3240US laptop with SuSe 9.1 64 bit Linux. I am having problem with Dial up. From Yast2 I found that the laptop's internal modem is detected as HP Internal Modem but when I try t query the modem from KPPP I get mode busy. I tried ttyS0 - ttyS3 as device but same result. Also yast2 may find my modem but unable to get where it is attached. (ttyS0 or ttyS1). So I tried manually , I already written the result. Now does SuSe 9.1 has a modem driver for it else , I think I have no hope. Currently my modem & card reader is not working under Linux & since I have linux only my box I am having problem to work with this machine. Also please tell me , from yast2 I get the chip set of my machine is nForcer so , I should install the nForcer driver from www.nvidia.com TIA Anirban Biswas. -- If Bill Gates is the Devil then Linus Torvalds must be the Messiah.
The Dial-Up of the released DVD version of Suse 9.1 Professiional 64 bit must be updated. Otherwise it will not work. I had a similar problem with my external serial ISDN terminal adapter. Although it is working like a standard serial modem there was no connection possible. I had to boot Windows XP 64Bit Edition to be able to connect to the internet and download the required patch from Suse;-) Moritz

hi i have compaq 3004 ( similar model ) the modem refused to work despite trying to install smartlink softmodem drivers. they are for 32bit ! i even tried installing the driver after installing suse pro 32bit but no luck finally planning to buy an external usb modem . that works i havent tried the card reader yet will give it a shot and tell ya. i had a mail from compaq enquiring requesting to participate in satisfaction survey and i seriously gave them a piece of mind. have installed the nvidia gforce driver and the display has improved but i dont understand why i get nvidia splash screen every time xstarts Harsh

That is the default but you can turn it off. In the Section "Device" part of your /etc/X11/XF86Config file, add this line: Option "NoLogo" "true" Then no more splash screen at startup.

Hi Can you telll me which patches to download cause I do not saw any dialup modem related patches. Should I have to update my kernel. TIA Anirban Biswas -- If Bill Gates is the Devil then Linus Torvalds must be the Messiah.
It was the wvdial-1.54-61.3.x86_64.rpm I had to install. Moritz
