Skype not working on Suse 10.1 : (ALSA Error)
Hi, I installed Suse 10.1 and I don't get any sound in skype. I get an error read error, res = -1 , handle = -1 and on the /var/log/messages: May 22 17:01:50 laptopAir kernel: ALSA sound/core/pcm_lib.c:2534: capture read error (DMA or IRQ trouble?) Does somebody have a clue on how to fix this ? Regards Michele

I get the same errors on my SuSE 10 after a few call-talk-hangup cycles. I just shutdown and restart skype. Skype for Linux has not been updated and is ALSA-agnostic, so I am looking for VoIP alternatives. I find very hard to beat their prices, though --until the end of the year, zero charges to calls originating and ending within US and Canada. On March 13, 2006, I posted on the SuSE AMD64 forum an extensive diatribe on sound and other issues. The title was "Possible solutions to sound mixing, Broadcom wifi, and PCMCIA." I discussed skype, too. Here is the direct link: http://lists.suse.com/archive/suse-amd64/2006-Mar/0056.html I don't pretend to know everything, but I think my posting may help you a lot. -- Running 64-bit Linux on AMD64

Hi, I find your statement a bit strange, because in the "Rest of the World" we don't pay anything from anywhere to anywhere. I regularly use Skype to phone Australia - England et cetera for free. Are you being taken for a ride? Or do I missinterpret your statement? Regards, Colin
