I have a dual Opteron 254 (2.4 GHz) machine with Tyan Thunder K8W (S2885 ANRF). The BIOS is AMIBIOS version V2-05 build The original operating system was SuSE 9.3 with Linux version 2.6.11.4-21.7-smp (geeko@buildhost) (gcc version 3.3.5 20050117 (prerelease) (SUSE Linux)) #1 SMP Thu Jun 2 14:23:14 UTC 2005. Because of the security alert from SuSE watcher I upgraded the SuSE 9.3 kernel from 2.6.11.4-21.7 to 2.6.11.4-21.8. Unfortunately, after the upgrade I lost sound capability. There is no sound. The Hardware Info created by YAST detects Tyan AMD-8111 AC97 Audio and gives the following information: I/O Ports: 0xc800-0xc8ff (rw) I/O Ports: 0xcc00-0xcc3f (rw) IRQ: 10 (no events) Driver Info #0: Driver Status: i810_audio is not active Driver Activation Cmd: "modprobe i810_audio" Driver Info #1: Driver Status: snd-intel8x0 is not active Driver Activation Cmd: "modprobe snd-intel8x0" Config Status: cfg=yes, avail=yes, need=no, active=unknown Since the Hardware info says that the the i810_audio & snd-intel8x0 are not activeI tried to use YAST to correct this situation. When I did YAST -> sound it says: "The number of currently running cards does not match the number of configured cards in your configuration profile. Try to restart sound system?" It gives me the option to restart the sound system. Then I selected "Yes". Then there is the reconfirmation that AMD-8111 AC97 Audio is not running. I then request addind AMD811 again. Then I get this message: The kernel module snd-intel 8x0 for sound support could not be loaded. This can be caused by incorrect module parameters including invalid IQ or IRQ parameters. I tried to restart sound using Control Center -> sound. But that too does not help. Please by suggesting what I should do to get the kernel module snd-intel 8x0 loaded and to regain the sound.
