Re: [suse-amd64] CPU runs only with 800 MHz
The Hardware is: CPU: Athlon64 3000+ Board: MSI K8T Neo Bios is the newest. In /var/log/messages there are following details: rcpowersaved: CPU frequency scaling is not supported by your processor. rcpowersaved: enter 'POWERSACE_CPUFREQD_MODULE=off' in /etc/sysconfig/powersave/common to avoid this warning. in /var/log/boot.log there are no entys In Windows the cpu runs at 1000mhz when there is no load and the vcore is reduced as well. so far so good... Is there a possibility to configure manually that frequency scaling is possible? Or are there any other solutions? The powersaving feature is nice for me because next month I want to set up 100 athlon64 systems. And then saving power saves money... :) Thanks for your help! Thomas

What else is there? Any lines before that? Please send also the output of /proc/cpuinfo

No, its an Athlon64 3000+ and cool and quiet works in windows.
What did the powernow-k8 kernel driver say in dmesg ? -Andi
What did the powernow-k8 kernel driver say in dmesg ?
Nothing. Is that driver included in the standard Suse 9.1 Setup? (I installed the 64bit version from dvd)
Is it stated that your mainboard BIOS has full Newcastle support ? Or that your mainboard is suitable for CG stepping processors ?
the Bios is the newset version 1.6 from msi (updated today). I think it supports this processors... Also C'n'Q is working in windows like I said. On the Webpage msi gives the information that the Board supports Athlon64 till 3400+ max.

powersaved should have tried to load it before outputting the message you posted earlier. Do modprobe powernow_k8 dmesg | grep powernow and post the output. -Andi
I had a similar problem with my laptop (AMD64 3200+) running suse 9.0 and 2.4 kernel. It appeared that the manufacture hadn't provided a correct PST table in the BIOS. I had to resort to drastic measures by hacking the powernow-k8 module to provide the correct vid and fid for full speed. A bit of a potch and the machine only has two speeds of 800MHz and 2000MHz. In Windows the speed varies more or less continuously. I don't mind since I'm either editing files (ok at 800 MHz) or running simulations (ok at 2000MHz). I'm not sure about suse 9.1 and the 2.6 kernel since that uses ACPI. On Tuesday 11 May 2004 16:52, Andi Kleen wrote:
