RE: [suse-amd64] POLL: Do you have a positive impression on the 64-bit platform ... plz drop a note on the hardware you use
I found the Opteron to be the best all around two-way and four-way database platform for Oracle. They have proven to be rock solid performers and very stable on SLES 8 I have two 4-way 844 and 846 Celestica Servers (From the company formerly known as Racksaver, AKA Verari) 8GB of RAM Two HP 6400 RAID Controllers HP Storageworks We are running the AMD64 version of 9i with great success as well as the 32-bit version on the 64bit version SLES8. I haven't had any issues with hardware configuration with these servers and Suse. Our DBA's and report writers are astounded by the performance vs. our old Sparc boxes. We also have several two-way 246's from Verari as well. Unfortunatly, they are running Windows and MSSQL. :( Our Win software developers love the Opterons performace. (I attempted to show them the light with Suse and Mono. Something about a horse, water and not wanting to drink occurred) Regards, Joe Bedard

Plz let me/others know how you dealt with problems if you had any
(And yes ... I'll probably buy a AMD64/Opteron myself in the near future)
