Hello! Could somebody tell me is ist possible to run vmware with networking on AMD64? /dev/vmnet: port on hub 0 successfully opened ioctl32(vmnet-bridge:13909): Unknown cmd fd(4) cmd(00008941){00} arg(ffffd898) on /dev/vmnet0 I run kernel 2.6.3 from kernel.org. btw, vmware works without networking just fine :-)

Hello!
Could somebody tell me is ist possible to run vmware with networking on AMD64?
/dev/vmnet: port on hub 0 successfully opened ioctl32(vmnet-bridge:13909): Unknown cmd fd(4) cmd(00008941){00} arg(ffffd898) on /dev/vmnet0
I run kernel 2.6.3 from kernel.org.
Someone would need to write an 32bit emulation handler for this ioctl. -Andi

I see. I found that it have to be handled in dev_ifsioc , but there is no code for it... Unfortunately, I don't know how this conversion works :-( Where can I read about this?

Slightly outdated, but still gives an good overview: http://www.firstfloor.org/~andi/writing-ioctl32 -Andi

Thank you! Fortunately, I found that I were wrong about dev_idsioc. In compat_ioctl.h I found /* FIXME: not compatible COMPATIBLE_IOCTL(SIOCSIFBR) COMPATIBLE_IOCTL(SIOCGIFBR) */ I uncommented these line. Certanly, this not made calls compatible ;-) But this allows vmware to load bridged network Bridged networking on /dev/vmnet0 [ OK ] Than I changed network adapter in vmware to use vlance virtual device and now I have network working in vmware. Thank you!
If you try VMware GSX 3, there is no need for any programing! David
