Suse 9.0 Pro AMD 64 - Athon64 vs. Opteron

Hello, is it possible to use the Suse 9.0 Pro AMD64 with Opterons or are there any problems? On the Suse website only the Athlon64 is mentioned, not the Opteron. Generally, what is the difference between the Pro and the SLES version? And last, does anybody know when the SLES9 is about to come? And very last, a freaky question: Does anybody uses the 64bit Suse together with NIS+? Should I expect problems? (I know, I always have to expect problems with NIS+ :-) ) Thanks a lot, Holger -- Holger Fröning (mailto:holger@ra.ti.uni-mannheim.de) University of Mannheim - Computer Architecture Group URL: http://ra.ti.uni-mannheim.de -------------------------------------------------------

Feel free to use the Professional on any AMD64 system (either Athlon64 or Opteron).
Generally, what is the difference between the Pro and the SLES version?
- Different packages (SLES has less) - more configuration (SLES has extra YaST features) - maintenance (Professional only gets security updates, SLES gets security updates, bug fixes and new features) - ISVs like Oracle certify their product for SLES. - Hardware gets certified for SLES - SLES has a lifetime of 5 years during which you can ask for support, Professional has nothing similar.
And last, does anybody know when the SLES9 is about to come?
Next year.
And very last, a freaky question: Does anybody uses the 64bit Suse together with NIS+? Should I expect problems? (I know, I always have to expect problems with NIS+ :-) )
We use NIS in house but not NIS+. It should work but we have not tested it really... Andreas -- Andreas Jaeger, aj@suse.de, http://www.suse.de/~aj SuSE Linux AG, Deutschherrnstr. 15-19, 90429 Nürnberg, Germany GPG fingerprint = 93A3 365E CE47 B889 DF7F FED1 389A 563C C272 A126

It should work fine with Opterons.
Generally, what is the difference between the Pro and the SLES version?
SLES has more support, is maintained for a longer time, has more testing and is better supported by third party software vendors.
And very last, a freaky question: Does anybody uses the 64bit Suse together with NIS+? Should I expect problems? (I know, I always have to expect problems with NIS+ :-) )
I don't know details about NIS+, but if a 32bit SuSE works I would expect the 64bit version to work too. -Andi
