Thanks for the reply. The system has already been extensively load tested under suse 9.0(2.4 64 bit kernel) and memtest + and is absolutely stable. As a side note, we've discovered that the blackdown jvm's are 4 times faster for our app than the sun jvm - there seems to be something wrong with the sun jvm's smp support. However the blackdown 64 bit jvm has a memory leak that kills it after a couple of days of load testing so we use the 32bit one. Al Joel Wiramu Pauling wrote:
Pays to read through.... Have you tried swapping out the ram?
Try using mprime to stress test the system, this will tell you if it's hardware related or not (if it errors out)
Get it from http://www.mersenne.org/prime.htm
Hi there Al,
I'm not using the Sun version... Using blackdown... they have a 64bit version.... easiest way to get it up and running is keep the current java path settings (and exports) and just replace everything with the 64bit blackdown version.
Get it from:http://mirrors.sunsite.dk/java-linux/JDK-1.4.2/amd64/rc1/

Hello; We're having problems with java on our dual opteron 242 box. The box has 2gb Ram, and a Tyan 2885 mb. We have an application that runs in jboss 3.2.3. We installed a clean copy of 64 bit Suse 9.1 and setup our application. The application started dying in various ways which we traced back to the following errors appearing in /var/log/messages:
May 17 13:23:27 dev5 kernel: java[5474]: segfault at 0000000000000004 rip 0000000057ea7300 rsp 000000008127f938 error 4 May 17 13:23:27 dev5 kernel: java[5474]: segfault at 0000000000000004 rip 0000000057f95f6a rsp 0000000081280040 error 4 May 17 13:23:29 dev5 kernel: java[5474]: segfault at 0000000000000004 rip 000000005800363e rsp 000000008127f558 error 4 May 17 13:23:29 dev5 kernel: java[5474]: segfault at 0000000000000004 rip 000000005800d8ca rsp 000000008127ed60 error 4
We even tried running jboss without our application deployed and got the same errors out of the jboss jmx-console. We have been running 64 bit Suse 9.0 before this; we had tried some of the preproduction 2.6 kernels for that and got similar errors. The standard 2.4 kernel(201) works without those errors, although the last 2 builds (209 and 215) have caused some less severe java out of memory errors. We've tried 3 different JVM's and got the same errors, the JVM's are the Blackdown.org 32 and 64 bit rc1 versions and the Sun 1.4.2_3. All the version info and processor info are below. Any idea where I can go for some help with this?
Thanks Al
