From what I have found there isn't a 64-bit Oracle 10gR(x) for AMD Opteron systems? From the info I have found you have to assume the 2.4 kernel and the db server software runs in 32-bit mode.
Is this correct?

No, that is not correct. There is a pure 64-bit version 10.1.0.3 for Linux x86_64. http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/database/oracle10g/index.... 10.2.0.1.0 is not available for linux x86_64 yet.

Huh? The first match on google for "64-bit Oracle 10g" says http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/database/oracle10g/index.... -- In English, every word can be verbed. Would that it were so in our programming languages.
