Hello Angelo, Download the latest BIOS from Tyan site (2885_202) and install it first, before you do anything else. Otherwise there will be problems with SATA. Install 9.1 and do an online upgrade and say 'yes' to nvidia driver, it works fine. By using only one memory dimm per cpu you will not get the benefit of 128 bit wide memory access. Maybe put the two 1 Gb dimms in slots 1 & 2 for cpu #1 and get a couple more for cpu #2 Janis

Thanks for your suggestions. Actually my choice of memory was financially constrained, plans are of course to expand it as soon as money comes. Just a "quick" question on upgrading BIOS (it is the first time I update a BIOS): How do I update my BIOS? (In the Tyan page I've found instructions only "Win oriented") Thanks Angelo On Tue, 29 Jun 2004 16:39:32 +0300 Janis Klava <jklava@lettux.lv> wrote:

Hello Angelo The BIOS upgrade instructions are not OS specific, they apply to any box and are the same, Win or Linux. What you do need is a Windows 95 or 98 boot floppy disk to start your computer to enable the BIOS installation. Insert the boot floppy, start computer and press F5 as per instructions When you see the a:\ prompt insert the BIOS disk and type 'flash' Then fully follow the instructions on clearing the cmos memory. Hi, I'm updating (for the first time) the BIOS of my K8W Thunder. I've just done the flash of the BIOS and now I'm cleaning the CMOS following the instruction found in the Tyan web site. I have a clarifying question on their last poit saying : * You will need to make the BIOS settings at this point and you're done. What does it mean? Better, what setting it is reffering to? After you update your BIOS, you are supposed to clear the CMOS settings via a motherboard jumper. After you have done this, the BIOS settings are back to factory defaults. So you need to recreate any custom settings you had.
Thanks
