Help please! I started Gnome for the first time on 9.1 today. BIG mistake! It is unusable black screen a bunch of folder symbols with lines under them. Menus all tiny with little lines instead of text. My machine jumps straight into the last desktop (no login, no opportunity to tell it to use KDE) and I can't log out of it. Help how do I escape the clutches of the evil Gnome! (I've even tried reloading, but it still reverts to Gnome) Sue
ctl+alt+f2 and login as root.
start Yast in text(curses) mode by entering the command
'Yast' (without the quotes.
look for the desktop setting in the system/sysconfig menu.
change DESKTOP=GNOME to DESKTOP=KDE.
change the setting, save and exit yast, restart X.

A big thank you to Sean I couldn't find the DESKTOP=GNOME but yast -sysconfig did allow me to remove myself as default login, from which I could login and select kde Sue
