Installing SuSE 9.2 prof with ASUS KV8 SE-D and VIA RAID
Just suse 9.2 prof and I'm looking to install it. Currently I have 2 HD on the VIA raid controller with windowsXP installed....so I ran partition magic and made a 19gig Linux Ext2 partition and a 1gig Linux Swap partition. Put in the bootable DVD, go through the motions...and low and behold I get an error! "ERROR: This system has at least one hard disk with a raid configuration presented by the bios as Raid that is in fact software raid. The following disks were detected as part of such a raid: /dev/sda /dev/sdb The linux kernel2.4supported some of these systems (like promise fasttrak) but the linux 2.6 kernel does not support them at all. If you install onto these disks, your raid configuration and any data on the Raid will be lost. Refer to http://portal.suse.com to learn how to migrate to a lnux software raid." I go there and it says essentially to treat both of those hardrives as seperate...and reading on the mailing list so far all I've seen is to use the Promise SATA Raid and select IDE....but I want to keep my raid setup on the via tech vt8237 sata raid controller, since I have windowsXP and everything else on it. What are my options? Gentoo says it works with the software raid of VIA 8237....is my only linux option to go Gentoo? Jon Miranda __________________________________ Celebrate Yahoo!'s 10th Birthday!
