I'm wondering if someone can explain the differences between SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 9 and the regular SuSE Linux Workstation Pro 9.1? I'm trying to decide which to use for an OpenGroupware Server. Tom -- Tom Nielsen Neuro Logic Systems 1.805.389.5435 x18 www.neuro-logic.com

According to the SuSE price list ... about $349.00 :) On Wednesday 06 October 2004 21:58, Tom Nielsen wrote:

Thanks :-) But *might* there be something other than that? On Wednesday 06 October 2004 12:25 pm, Janis Klava wrote:

In My humble Opinion... According to what I've read, the SuSE SLES series are famous for exceptional fast kernels. The article I was reading stated that they actually went back and retested the SLES system as the figures they got where almost maxing the theoretical SATA specs. The Pro series is reknown for it's fast changing pace, and having the latest and greatest (within limits)... But mostly SLES is about verification. That is Oracle, IBM DB2, etc are only certified on SLES, as recertifying them every 4 to 6 months is not possible. Jerry On Wed, 2004-10-06 at 21:46, Tom Nielsen wrote:

Main difference is support. SLES9 will be supported for 5 years, 9.1 for a much shorter time and at lower levels. -Andi

- SLES is maintained for 5 years, SL for far less. - Business support is only offered for SLES - Support for commercial software like SAP or Oracle often requires SLES. Philipp -- Philipp Thomas <pth@suse.de> R&D SUSE LINUX AG, Maxfeldstr. 5, D-90409 Nuremberg, Germany

Thanks to all. I guess I'm going to go with SLES. -- Tom Nielsen Neuro Logic Systems 1.805.389.5435 x18 www.neuro-logic.com
