Ok I solved the problem. I didn't use the alsa output device for mplayer and because I'm using a SB Audigy 2 NX usb soundcard, I have to use alsa for correct sound. Alsa maps my 44100 Hz sample rate to 48000 Hz. If the oss device is used, there's no mapping and a terrible distorted sound (44100Hz at 48000). I added ao=alsa in my mplayer config Now I have got a new problem, but this has nothing to do with SuSE or AMD Thanks for the help Andy
