From my googling I noticed a few people have logged "Bad page state" errors over the years but not got much feedback :( I guess this means its either something really really simple or something horrible.

My system seems to have become really unstable lately with applications crashing with sigsev or the whole system freezing (even at runlevel 3 in bash)
I suggest you download the latest memtest (www.memtest86.org) and give that a testrun. (burn selfbootable iso to CD, stick cd in cddrive reboot computer see it start memtest, leav memtest running for 24 hours (oros) and see if it finds any errors.
