The upgradeversion too ??

Yeeep. The SuSE-Abo from the SuSE-shop (Michel Delf) is the upgradeversion and they get it first. But the changes from update-, student- or normalversion are only the number of books, the label on the box and the price. Maybe the live-cd is (an extra gave) in some normal packages. -- Ciao Marco, registered GNU/Linux-User 313353
i hear that there are rumours about suse moving to a community based distro with their suse linux pro/per products, and leaving sles for the corp/business customers. similar to what redhat did with their fedora distro. dont know if this rumour could turn out to be true.

Yeah, I've seen somebody without any connection to SUSE starting such a discussion on pro-linux...
distro with their suse linux pro/per products, and leaving sles for the corp/business customers.
SLES has always been the product we'd like our business users see running. It fullfills their needs better. Just note that will not get any maintenance for SUSE Linux - only for SLES... So there will be _no_ updates ? :-) btw, I'm SLES cutsomer and it is not clear for me what is maintenance and what is support. If I point that I have problems support usually reply (this is, certanly, only first reaction) - this is support, not maintenance. :-))) Sorry for offtopic.

That's not wait I said. With SUSE Linux you get for 2 years security updates. and fixes for critical problems.

I hope this is documented properly on our web pages.

But nobody replies if you have problems with SUSE Linux, Andreas -- Andreas Jaeger, aj@suse.de, http://www.suse.de/~aj SUSE Linux AG, Maxfeldstr. 5, 90409 Nürnberg, Germany GPG fingerprint = 93A3 365E CE47 B889 DF7F FED1 389A 563C C272 A126

Well, and current SLES for 5 year. This is only difference :-)

Shure. http://www.suse.com/us/business/services/maintenance/index.html Maintenance include _only_ installation support.

The same can be with SLES with no support. So if one buy SLES without support, but with maintanance only reason is certification of SLES for some software (f.e. oracle). Btw, currently Novell calls this upgrade protection (i.e. access to pathes and newer versions, nothing more), not maintenance. Just to make things clear :-)

I can't belive that. 18 months ago, I read a SuSE statement how they make money. It's nearly 50 to 50 with the business to privat products. So, they need to sell both, to get money for their own workers or supporting some linux projects (eg: KDE). And so long the working in Germany* (or Europe) goes on, I have no problem to pay ~100 Eur or $ for the 2 updates/year. But fact is: the source code from Yast2 is free, since SLES9 and that is great! * (That's the reason I buy SuSE) -- Ciao Marco, registered GNU/Linux-User 313353

Shit ... I might just saddle the horse and drive to Flensburg (110km) ;-) Any ideas on where to pick it up there (so that I have a clue next time 9.3 or SuSE X'ed).

Ja ja .... bin seit 6.2 dabei ;-)

'suse 10' does not make sense. There's no such product. The first shops now have SUSE Linux Professional 9.2 and that one includes:
of the bellow will be included:
Gnome 2.8 desktop + ximian stuff
2.6+ximian enhancements
Kde 3.3 better power management
Yes, both.
2.6.9 kernel
2.6.9rc2 kernel (calls itself 2.6.8) Andreas -- Andreas Jaeger, aj@suse.de, http://www.suse.de/~aj SUSE Linux AG, Maxfeldstr. 5, 90409 Nürnberg, Germany GPG fingerprint = 93A3 365E CE47 B889 DF7F FED1 389A 563C C272 A126

You don't even consider the possibility of a 9.3? If the pattern holds, it will be gnome 2.8. 2.6.14 kernel perhaps? Regards Sid. -- Sid Boyce .... Hamradio G3VBV and keen Flyer =====LINUX ONLY USED HERE=====
