Soundcards. Any Recomendations?
Hi There, I am in NZ and I can only really get 2 brands that are any good. Terratec and Creative. I would like a nice mid-high end sound card. And would like to know which of the terratec ranges and creative ranges work well with alsa and in particular suse 9.1. I.e I don't want to pay for a Terratec with a breakout box and the breakout box not be support, the same goes for creative. So can someone recomend particular products which are good. I know that Envy 24 chipset is well supported and i've looked through alsa soundcard matrix, but I would like some personal recomendations feedback.
Hi Joel, I had a Soundblaster live! built in my old computer and it worked really well with Suse 9.0 (at least with the 32bit version). With Suse 9.1 I experienced some troubles with my new computer using the onboard-sound-chipset: With every reboot, suse knows the soundcard but all the settings are gone and it does not work (deleting and re-installing the soundcard with yast is annoying but helps). I dont know if this problem occurs with sb-live as well and if it's suse9.1-specific... Gernot

Yeah Soundblaster lives have anoying irq and legacy pci-isa addressing issues i've read. And am trying to steer clear of them. I had your problem with my on board sound. I just munched around with the yast config file a bit... deleted it from yast completely. setup the config file my self. Sorta worked. readded through yast... No more problems. =-) Maybe you should try this... might work =-? Thanks for the input. I'm hopiing someone will have experience with terratecs or audigy 1/2 cards... Thanks for the feedback, Keep it coming, anyone have any experience with audigy range? Also I am going to test a Gainward Hollywood@home 7.1 solution. No one has yet to confirm or deny that it will work under linux, it's an envy 24ht-s chip. I know the envy is well supported so hopefully won't have any issues. If someone knows differently let me know. Kind regards Joel On Mon, 2004-06-28 at 15:32, Joel Wiramu Pauling wrote:
