Nah, this is actually about getting memtest86 to work, rather than load, start drawing the display, and reboot.
memtest86 is does not gracefully fall back if it does not recognize the CPUID of the machine. Since AMD64 CPU's CPUID is not known by memtest86 it typically sets up very wrong for AMD64 and crashes as you mention. I would email the memtest86 developers and ask them to fix this. Just adding a "default:" to their switch statement on CPUID would help. -- David
