k3b and SuSE 9.1 AMD64 (kernel 2.6.8) : DVD ok, CD not ok

Hello I am using k3b v0.11.12-4 which is an update of the original version coming from SuSE 9.1. The kernel is the last one for SuSE 9.2 : 2.6.8-24.5. This distro runs on an Asus laptop L5D with a DVD/CD burner made by Toshiba. This is a SD-R6112 burner : DVD-R/DVD-RW and CD-RW. k3b seems to have a curious behaviour : the device "Toshiba DVD-ROM SD-R6112" is well recognized for erasing a burned DVD-RW and it is not recognized for erasing a burned CD-RW when k3b is used by a user account. All is good with the root account. In the /dev, there are two symbolic links : /dev/dvdrecorder -> /dev/hdb and /dev/cdrecorder -> /dev/hdb. The group for /dev/hdb is disk. With ou without the user account put in the group disk, the problem is the same. With an older version (0.10) of k3b with SuSE 9.0 AMD64, all is good. If someone can find the origin of this problem ..... Regards Pascal

Hi Pascal, funny error, indeed! Sorry, no solution, but a question: Is there a special reason for you to use k3b v0.11.12-4 and not the current version k3b-0.11.17? Before trying to fix k3b v0.11.12 it might make sense to upgrade first, and see if the error is not fixed in the meantime. Then I would run k3b-setup (not in the SuSE version) to let it set the permissions correctly. You seem to be using 9.2 now, there is a k3b RPM on packman for suse92-x86_64 HTH, Matt

That's the solution ;-) Our latest update kernel for 9.1 needs an updated k3b and dvd+rw-tools - and we provided both, Andreas -- Andreas Jaeger, aj@suse.de, http://www.suse.de/~aj SUSE LINUX Products GmbH, Maxfeldstr. 5, 90409 Nürnberg, Germany GPG fingerprint = 93A3 365E CE47 B889 DF7F FED1 389A 563C C272 A126
