Would be nice to have around for all considering buying stuff.
Dual Opteron 240 Tyan K8S Pro (S2882) 8GB DDR333 AMD8113 Suse 9.1 installed on small IDE Running Postgresql on EVMS managed mirrored SATA drives. Qlogic 2340 HBA connected to HP MSA1000 RAID array via SAN switch. Single Opteron 144 Tyan K8S (S2850) 2GB DDR333 AMD8113 SuSE 9.1 Both have been running OK for a while now. Needed to keep up with BIOS updates early on, but seems to have stabilised at the moment. Benchmarking Postgres on the Dual Opteron box seems to be 2-3 times quicker than the production server (Compaq ES45, dual 1GHz Alpha, 9GB RAM, 4TB RAID array through SAN switch, running Tru64 5.1). Though this may just be that the ES45 is also running some large Matlab processes. Been reasonably happy, though I can't get the Tyan System Management Daughter Cards to do anything useful under Linux. Also the Qlogic HBA seems to work under some kernels and not under others. Will probably be looking at a small cluster of duals or some quads soon.
