Trying to run Skype on an Opteron system under SuSE 10.0 with all latest upgrades but can not get any sound. Novell did send a newsletter with a howto but at the time could not access the said url as it kept loading and quitting. Does anyone have a solution for this problem. TIA Janis

Do you get any sound at all from other applications? Do you get any errors from skype, such as busy device? How did you configure your ALSA? What are your '/etc/asound.conf' and '/etc/modprobe.conf.local' files? How do you invoke skype? Skype is ALSA-agnostic. Two weeks ago (March 13) I responded to the initial thread "64bit notebook," discussing sound mixing. There I provided configuration files which may be helpful to you and I explicitly discussed how I handled skype. SuSE's advice (mentioned in my posting of March 13) on how to run skype via AOSS did not work very well on my 64-bit system, but it contained some useful information nonetheless. NOTE TO ALL: Since then, I discovered that declaring the device 'asymed' in MPlayer somehow causes the video to come out faster than the audio, at about 2X. Declaring 'default' instead of 'asymed' fixed the problem. Happy tunes! CF -- Running 64-bit Linux on AMD64
