I planed to build a server with AMD 64 x2 processor and / or Opteron 275 but the announces of the "Core 2 Duo" chnaged my mind. In any cases, I will keep SuSE on this new workstation but I need the best processor power.
Any clue n
I have both and I can absolutely say the AMD Opteron dual-core beats' the Intel dual core - hands down Why, because of the 1GHz communications hyperlink / switcher the AMD's have had since inception, whereas the Intel use another system less optimised IMHO.
My 2c worth. Cheers Grahame
I understood that "Core 2 Duo" will be available only end of July. Are you talking about the current "Code Duo" or the new "Core 2 Duo" ? The availability schedule on July / August is for Europe, maybe you already have some PCs build upon the new Core 2 Duo in the US ? All the previews I read about the new Intel proc architecture say that it will be far more efficient than the current K8 AMD architecture. I'm not an hardware expert and I may be missunderstood some key points, but I'm ready to heard some explanations. Regards Jean-Lin
