I have SLES8 ofr AMD64 running with Oracle 9i R2 (32-bit production). It has been running flawlessly. After updating from SP2 to SP3, I could not startup Oracle. Oracle reported the following: ORA-27123: unable to attach to shared memory segment Linux Error: 22: Invalid argument After exhausting all the known Oracle Metalink remedies for this issue, I came to the conclustion that the new 2.4.21 kernel was not presenting a shared memory environment that Oracle can agree with. I backed off the kernel from the SP3 kernel (k_smp-2.4.21-143) to the k_smp-2.4.19-256 kernel. With that change, Oracle starts normally. Any insight? Am I missing the bus or is there an issue here?
