Suse 9.1 64bit Install to SATA Raid (vt8327/k8t800)
Hi there, I'm trying to install suse 9.1 to a sata raid array. I'm using MSI Master2-Far With a Single opteron 248 and 2gb of ram. Raid array is stiped (0) and boot active. Using two hitachi 160gb drives. I tried with a 9.0 install aswell but 9.1(64bit) is giving me the same problems: Fault: Yast/parted does not detect the raid array and presents each individual 160gb drive. There is no way to group them with lvm, (lvm wizzard won't let me select them). If I have previously created a partition (for example with partionmagic which see's one 300gb drive) and set it to unformated, then parted will see this and Identify it as hda1. However any attempt to reconfigure/install/format or delete this drive fails. I have search high and low for answer to this problem. My Question is, do I need to load a kernel driver module at install (my setup requires acpi to be off during installation BTW). If so which one, and where do I specify it? Otherwise any other help is appreciated. To test if it was hardware related I installled xp pro sp1 (which required the via sata drive disk to install) and it work fine. XP is gone now and I really want my expensive new OS to work properly. AS an aside If I let yast do everything by default it partitions one of the 160gb and formats it fine and continues to install. (WHich is is doing now) However this is very slow, and considering I got nearlly 92MB/PS transfer rate to the array in a 32bit windows I doubt it's very healthy doing this. Please help soon.
