Fwd: [suse-amd64] Portland compiler
Here's another question about SATA compilers. I do not know the answer. Begin forwarded message:

Good day to you.
Wondered if you knew whether the 8.2 BETA 9 supports VIA's 8237 inbuilt SATA controller (since SuSe must assume this will be on 80% of boards).
Sorry to ask you directly, but not sure of how to actually post a question to the list.
If you could assist me with that also I'd be most greatful.

Just two generic remark first: * SuSE will in general support everything that's available and has an open source Linux driver. * With AMD the situation is excellent since AMD provided us documentation for all there chips so that we could develop drivers. With other vendors it might be different - and a popular chip might not get support if the vendor is not releasing documentation on the chip at all. The VIA vt8237 southbridge seems to be supported in Linux (see drivers/ide/pci/via82cxxx.c in the Linux 2.4 kernel), so it might work - but I have not verified this.
