Download from a mirror of ftp.suse.com. The ISO is /pub/suse/x86_64/supplementary/9.0-PatchCD/9.0-PatchCD.iso Regards Rainer -- Dipl.-Inf. (FH) Rainer Koenig Project Manager Linux Fujitsu-Siemens VP BC E SW OS Phone: +49-821-804-3321 Fax: +49-821-804-2131

I got this patch and burned it. It boots, but the release notes say "The CD will ask for the 9.0/AMD64 DVD and continue with the installation with the updated kernel" I never see any message asking for the DVD. During the boot, it does say it has the SATA update (which is what I'm after), but when YAST gets to "loading hard disk drivers" it hangs. I tried putting in the DVD when it stops for language check, but it still dies. I tried "manual install", but this fails to see the SATA drive. The release notes don't match what the code does. Anyone can tell me what I should do to make it work correctly? I selected "Installation" from the boot menu, and like I said, manual install didn't work at all, at least for getting SATA up and running. Any help appreciated! The message comes when YaST is going to install the RPMs. Then it gets almost everything from the original DVD and after that it requires the patch CD again to get the latest kernel.

What system are you using? The release notes say: "Note that we do not have access to all those systems and do not guarantee that it works. Those that we have, have been tested briefly with success." Here on my board everything worked fine. But there might be some problems. You could try if you still can switch to another console, maybe there you find some helpful output. OK, I did not get that far yet.

Yeah, I saw that and hoped it'd work. Maybe it still will, it's an FIC K8-800T which uses the via vt8237 south bridge. That's the one the sata update was amied at I thought.

FUJIMORI-san suggested I use manual install and pick the sata driver by hand. That did allow me to switch console (because it told me which one to go look at) and here's what I got: ata1: SATA max UDMA/133cmd 0x9400 ctl 0x9802 bmdma 0xA400 irq10 ata2: SATA max UDMA/133cmd 0x9C00 ctl 0xA002 bmdma 0xA404 irq10 ata1: dev 0 ATA, max UDMA/133, 156301488 sectors (lba48) ata1: dev 0 configured for UDMA/133 ATA: abnormal status 0x7F on port 0x9c07 (No supprise, no drive on the second ata connector) scsi0: sata_via scsi1: sata_via Vendor: ATA Model ST380013AS Rev 0.81 Type: Direct-Access ANSI SCSI revision: 05 Attached scsi sda at scsi0, channel 0, id 0, lun 0 SCSI device sda: 156301488 512-byte hdwr sectors (80026 MB) sda: At this point it did not do anything for about 2 minutes and then the last line became sda: <3> ata1: DMA timeout, stat 0x24 and that was the end of it - it just does nothing and responds to nothing. Reset button worked tho, so the processor isn't dead, it's waiting for something that will never happen. Is there a different order I can load things in? Can I steal a module from the Mandrake AMD64 that does work and patch the patch? I know the Mandrake AMD64 works on this drive, and it should be kernel level stuff, so somebody has already done the hard work. It's just a matter of figuring out which driver to put where, and I'd appreciate some ideas on how to make this work. For example - is the cdrom also on scsi? Maybe the serial driver and cdrom are confused? (I hope that's a bad guess, I haven't a clue how to fix it) But when loading in manual mode, the via_sata asks for parameters - maybe I need to feed the driver something useful there? Any help appreciated!! Thanks! Patience, persistence, truth, Dr. mike
