Did you try the yast Sound module to configure it? Andreas -- Andreas Jaeger, aj@suse.de, http://www.suse.de/~aj SUSE Linux AG, Maxfeldstr. 5, 90409 Nürnberg, Germany GPG fingerprint = 93A3 365E CE47 B889 DF7F FED1 389A 563C C272 A126

I have an Acer Aspire 1501LCe laptop running 9.1 x86_64 XP3000+ at 1800 Mhz with kernel kernel.org 2.6.6-mm1. I have onboard snd_via82xx working. With earlier kernels I had some problems with sound breaking up

Sure you have kmix and not kamix? Default installed kamix; with kmix I have a lot more settings. P.J. -- ---------------------------- Peter-Josef Meisch Mail: pjmeisch@web.de ----------------------------

I had the same problem with my integrated ALC655 soundchip on my MSI VIA K8T800 FIS2R Board. ALSA detects the chip as "via-82xx". I didn't get more than noise out of my speakers :-( I configured it with YaST and tried all settings that are available ... but nothing worked. After that i changed to the OSS driver and this works now after adding some special configuration like disabling the softmixer, ... The OSS-developers have some problems with this configuration too and are working on it the told me, but i have sound now :-) Franz Gesendet von Yahoo! Hi - I had the same problem with the Fujitsu-Siemens D1607 motherboard (VIA onboard sound). After installation no sound, I tried all the VIA drivers in yast and always got an error when yast tried to restart the sound system. I solved this by compiling and installing the latest alsa driver. Don't panic - it is no hassle at all. Here is in short what I did: 1. Download alsa 1.04 driver, libraries, utilities from http://www.alsa-project.org/ 2. Follow the instructions at http://www.alsa-project.org/alsa-doc/doc-php/template.php?company=VIA&card=&chip=via82c686a&module=via82xx You have to have the kernel sources installed for it to work. After the procedure I had sound. I didn't try any fancy, so I don't know if sound works with all the bells and whistles. Hope that helps gl Side question: I had to reinstall the kernel sources to be able to compile. I installed all the latest patches with YOU during the installation of 9.1 and checked "Remove source packages...". Could that be the reason that I didn't have the complete kernel sources anymore? It may sound stupid, but I always thought that src.rpm packages were meant to be removed, if I check the option. -- Gnter Lichtenberg ========>mailto:lichten@sron.nl SRON (EOS) Sorbonnelaan 2 3584 CA UTRECHT the Netherlands Tel.: +31 30 253 5719 FAX : +31 30 254 0860
Hi, have a problem here with Suse 9.1 an the nvidia 5332 driver. With the beginning of installation, the installer is telling me, that he is unable to load kernel module 'nvidia.o'. I have installed the standard-kernel (2.6.4-52-default) and the kernel-sources, that comes with the dvd. What is going wrong? Any suggestions? Kindly Regards Uwe -- PGP 2.6.3-Key auf Anfrage, PGP-Key on request
I do not believe that the current x86_64 nvidia supports kernel 2.6. You need to use a patched driver from minion.com or just install the packaged nvidia driver from the Yast Online Update. (which should be the minion driver RPMed for your convenience) Steve

Sorry, perhaps it was .de not .com ... but if he was trying to install the stock driver from nvidia it would be nvidia.o, because the drivers are not kernel 2.6 compatible... only 2.4. The patch from minion allows you to work around that. (I couldn't begin to explain how, however) If you use Yast Online Update (YOU) you can download and install an rpm based nvidia driver which is nothing more than the minion patched nvidia driver. So, rundown, nvidia.com = 2.4 minion.de/YOU = 2.6

I tried the 1.0-5332 [x86_64] from http://www.sh.nu/download/nvidia over www.minion.de. And the driver is working very well. :) Thank You both very much for Your hints! Kindly Regrads Uwe -- PGP 2.6.3-Key auf Anfrage, PGP-Key on request
