RE: [suse-amd64] Suse 9.1 + 3ware 9000s + Floppy
I've already gone all through your current situation and I have some remedies for you, some good news, and some bad. Another email directly to you is to follow. -----Original Message----- From: IT [mailto:it@hgs.co.uk] Sent: Thursday, July 22, 2004 11:11 AM To: suse-amd64@suse.com Subject: [suse-amd64] Suse 9.1 + 3ware 9000s + Floppy Hardware : Tyan S2885 Motherboard [onboard Sata disabled] Dual AMD Opertron Processors, 4 GB Memory. 3Ware 9000 Sata Raid Card [6 disks in Raid 10, 1 hot standby, 1 individual scratch disk] Bog Standard Floppy/DVD/Graphics - nothing special here. Problem : Suse 9.1 - Won't allow access to floppy drive [bad block device] - 3Ware doesn't have the 3w-xxxx modules. Suse 9.0 - Allows access to floppy drive [32 bit only] - 3Ware modules available from 3ware. My first problem is getting the floppy drive to work under Suse 9.1 Then my plan is [unless anyone has already done this and is willing to share] to install 9.1 onto a spare IDE disk using onboard controller. Re-compile the 3ware drivers [source code available on 3ware site] for the 2.6 kernel. Create module disk [if I ever need to re-install I don't want to have to do all this again] Re-install Suse 9.1 onto Sata Raid. Anyone got any ideas, as I've been banding my head against this one all day [and it's a hard case !] Thanks in advance.
