SATA on ASUS K8V Deluxe (SuSE 9.1)
Hello Can anyone tell me a horror or happy story about SATA disks for this motherboard? Can I have a SATA drive as the only drive? The ASUS K8V documentation says it has a Promise R20378 Controller. TIA & Cheers

Closest I can tell you is that I have an MSI K8t "neo/platinum" board [nvidia chipset] and I'm running SATA drives in a soft-raid [striped] / LVM configuration. (and yes, even for /boot, though technically /boot isn't part of LVM, it is just an md device) I never really got the "on-board" part of the so-called hardware raid to ever work, so after an hour or two of screwing with it, I finally realized/justified the fact that since Linux does the RAID stuff automatically, I might as well use it that way instead. It turns out that after all was said and done, I re-read the documentation and found out that "even under windows..." the "raid" component is still a "soft" raid, not a true hardware raid (but then again, this is the nvidia nForce3 chipset, not the VIA chipset)
I have an asus k8v se. My primary disk is a Seagate SATA, my second an old PATA. No problems at all. (I never used the on board promise controller, only the vt8237) JR Pierre Patino wrote:
