RE: Re: [suse-amd64] 2.6.5-7.75-smp kernel update problem
I had some problems too, Turns out that the latest kernel update fixes alot of acpi issues, I had been running all my kernels with acpi=off. I removed this from the bootloader kernel line and was in business again.
Alternatively if your not running with acpi=off perhaps it's time to add it.
Let me know if this help.
Kind regards

Dear all
we have trouble on four of our opteron systems because of the latest kernel 2.6.5-7.75-smp.
We also had problems after doing an online update. Boot hangs; last console message before hang was something like 'running boot.local'. I was not able to determine what exactly was wrong. -K -- Check the List-Unsubscribe header to unsubscribe For additional commands, email: suse-amd64-help@suse.com

I do not have any acpi boot options set. After the first failed 2.6.5 boot I tried pci=noacpi with no effect. I'm confused by your last line. Are you recommending setting acpi=off for 2.6.4 (and prior) and recommending not setting it for 2.6.5 (and greater)? -K
