RE: [suse-amd64] [Announce] 9.2 AMD64 Install CD with New Kernel
Hi! As far as I can tell, this patch CD fixes the issue with my nvidia sata controller (nForce 250) and built in ethernet. BUT, since I still havent been able to scratch enough cash to get a DVD drive, I still cannot install SuSe 9.2. Is there a way to make it use an FTP/NFS site/dir instead of the 9.2 DVD? I lready tried just setting the source to ftp, but that ignores the updates on the patch CD. Or am I missing/ignorant of something? Thanks for all your help. R. -----Original Message----- From: Andreas Jaeger To: suse-amd Sent: 2/11/2005 12:20 AM Subject: [suse-amd64] [Announce] 9.2 AMD64 Install CD with New Kernel I'm currently uploading to ftp.suse.com (will soon be also on its mirrors) at: ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/people/aj/PatchCD The ISO is called: SuSE-9.2-PatchCD-1-RC3-CD1.iso If you have experienced installation problems with our 9.2 DVD, then download this CD and boot from it. It will ask you then for "CD1", and just insert the DVD at that point. During installation it will load packages from CD1 several times... This PatchCD has two advantages: * Installation with a new kernel. If you had problems installing with the DVD, please try it this way. * All the updated packages are installed directly. You can also download the CD and start "PatchCD" in YaST to only install the updated packages. Note the packages and the kernel are from before Christmas, so we have some more updates out since then... yes - there should be an article on portal.suse.com about making a ftp installation. Copy the dvd onto another system and then boot from the mini-iso or the patch CD and use ftp/http/... as installation source (press F2 at the first screen!). In this case you have to put the patchCD also on the installation server.
I lready tried just setting the source to ftp, but that ignores the updates on the patch CD.
Do the installation and load the patches from the patch CD afterwards.
Or am I missing/ignorant of something?

I can already install from the FTP site, the problem is, the FTP site also does not recognize my sata HD, just like the original 9.2 CD, so I can't install. If I use an NFS server that I have access to, where do I add the patchCD so that the install uses the kernel on it and not the one that came with 9.2? Sorry for the newbee questions and thanks for your help. :)
Or am I missing/ignorant of something?
Thanks for all your help.
