Same situation here (SuSE 9.0/AMD64, same FSC Scaleo machine - FSC D1607 boatd). I installed a 3Com card I had here, gathering dust, as I did not want to go back to 32bit. Same for the on-board sound card - it did not work, so I installed a trusty old Soundblaster card from the spare parts box.
