RE: [suse-amd64] nforce 250 - nvidia's sata controller
This post is just for anyones info incase they are interested. No smart ass coments about how much of a newbie I am. As I said, SuSE 9.2 cannot find the SATA HD I have in this box. I tried everyones suggestions. (there doesn't seem to be any way to change to legacy mode in the bios. [phoenix V6.00PG]) It does however, see the network adapter. I put in a 9.1 netowrk install CD, and it DOES see the SATA HD, but not the network adaper. And, stragely enough, it found it without the nvidia sata module loaded. Only the Generic Mid-Level SCSI Driver, SCSI disk driver, and SCSI CDROM drivers were loaded. I tried unloading the nv_sata and all the scsi modules, and reloading only the scsi ones, but that didn't work. Other stuff is that the shuttle sn85g4 V3 has one of thoes 8 in one memory card readers. SuSE 9.2 maps them to as SCSI drives. SuSE 9.2 does not. )I already tried installing 9.2 with it disconnected.) In 9.2, I looked at the kernel output (virt terminal 4) and when I load and unload the sata_nv (or was it nv_sata), the module loads, but it never finds the HD. from nv forum advice, I also DL the Ubuntu distro, and it found the HD no problem, but I didn;t install it because I don't know enough about it. Anyway, I guess I'll just put suse 9.1 32bit on it, since I need a working network to install the 64bit version from FTP. Really, whats the deal with no CD's for 64 bit? -----Original Message----- From: Ron Lau To: suse-amd64@suse.com Sent: 1/13/2005 10:40 AM Subject: Re: [suse-amd64] nforce 250 - nvidia's sata controller Importance: Low I tried the acpi off thing, still no SATA HD found. I tried to install suse 9.2 manually, and loaded the sata_nv module. YaST still did not see the SATA HD. Some other info, in case anyone cares... The HD already has win2k pro, and a fully functional suse 9.1amd64 on it, from when it was installed in the original shuttle that had a silicon image sata controller. I can still get grub up, but when I select suse 9.1, I get a /dev/sda not found error. This motherboard/chipset is so new that Shuttle's website doesn't even mention it, and the manuals that came with it are for the old nforce3 150 chipsets. Everything is picked up except for the SATA hard drive.
Is there even a linux driver for the nvidia sata controller?
nVidia has nForce drivers as well as video drivers at their website, but I didn't need them for my nForce 250 chipset. I did need a bios upgrade and installed with acpi disabled. You might try no acpi first, then bios upgrade, then nVidias drivers if the other options fail.
