SLES8 upgrade breaks NFS
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 I'm trying out the k_smp-2.4.21-185 on my dual Opteron system on a network. It is buth an NFS client and an NFS server. I have another Linux/x86 system (2.4.18) that is mounting directories read/write. When I try to write a large file onto the Opteron system, exactly 32K (0x8000) bytes of file get writte, then it hangs. tcpdump is reporting an infinite stream of packets like below. HOwever, if the Opteron system is the nfs *client* (host is Linux/alpha 2.4.21-pre1) there are no such difficulties. Here is a brief tcpdump when wing (the Opteron as a host) is receiving from flask (the Linux/i386 client) 10:06:37.915262 flask.XXXXXXXXXX > wing.XXXXXXXXXX: (frag 19252:368@32560) 10:06:37.916504 flask.XXXXXXXXXX > wing.XXXXXXXXXX: (frag 19252:1480@31080+) 10:06:37.917735 flask.XXXXXXXXXX > wing.XXXXXXXXXX: (frag 19252:1480@29600+) 10:06:37.918966 flask.XXXXXXXXXX > wing.XXXXXXXXXX: (frag 19252:1480@28120+) 10:06:37.920198 flask.XXXXXXXXXX > wing.XXXXXXXXXX: (frag 19252:1480@26640+) 10:06:37.921430 flask.XXXXXXXXXX > wing.XXXXXXXXXX: (frag 19252:1480@25160+) 10:06:37.922665 flask.XXXXXXXXXX > wing.XXXXXXXXXX: (frag 19252:1480@23680+) 10:06:37.923896 flask.XXXXXXXXXX > wing.XXXXXXXXXX: (frag 19252:1480@22200+) 10:06:37.925128 flask.XXXXXXXXXX > wing.XXXXXXXXXX: (frag 19252:1480@20720+) 10:06:37.926359 flask.XXXXXXXXXX > wing.XXXXXXXXXX: (frag 19252:1480@19240+) 10:06:37.927590 flask.XXXXXXXXXX > wing.XXXXXXXXXX: (frag 19252:1480@17760+) 10:06:37.928822 flask.XXXXXXXXXX > wing.XXXXXXXXXX: (frag 19252:1480@16280+) 10:06:37.930054 flask.XXXXXXXXXX > wing.XXXXXXXXXX: (frag 19252:1480@14800+) 10:06:37.931286 flask.XXXXXXXXXX > wing.XXXXXXXXXX: (frag 19252:1480@13320+) 10:06:37.931617 flask.XXXXXXXXXX > wing.XXXXXXXXXX: (frag 19253:368@32560) 10:06:37.932864 flask.XXXXXXXXXX > wing.XXXXXXXXXX: (frag 19253:1480@31080+) 10:06:37.934095 flask.XXXXXXXXXX > wing.XXXXXXXXXX: (frag 19253:1480@29600+) 10:06:37.935327 flask.XXXXXXXXXX > wing.XXXXXXXXXX: (frag 19253:1480@28120+) 10:06:37.936559 flask.XXXXXXXXXX > wing.XXXXXXXXXX: (frag 19253:1480@26640+) 10:06:37.937790 flask.XXXXXXXXXX > wing.XXXXXXXXXX: (frag 19253:1480@25160+) 10:06:37.939021 flask.XXXXXXXXXX > wing.XXXXXXXXXX: (frag 19253:1480@23680+) 10:06:37.940253 flask.XXXXXXXXXX > wing.XXXXXXXXXX: (frag 19253:1480@22200+) 10:06:37.941485 flask.XXXXXXXXXX > wing.XXXXXXXXXX: (frag 19253:1480@20720+) 10:06:37.942720 flask.XXXXXXXXXX > wing.XXXXXXXXXX: (frag 19253:1480@19240+) 10:06:37.943951 flask.XXXXXXXXXX > wing.XXXXXXXXXX: (frag 19253:1480@17760+) 10:06:37.945183 flask.XXXXXXXXXX > wing.XXXXXXXXXX: (frag 19253:1480@16280+) 10:06:37.946414 flask.XXXXXXXXXX > wing.XXXXXXXXXX: (frag 19253:1480@14800+) 10:06:37.947645 flask.XXXXXXXXXX > wing.XXXXXXXXXX: (frag 19253:1480@13320+) 10:06:37.947977 flask.XXXXXXXXXX > wing.XXXXXXXXXX: (frag 19254:368@32560) 10:06:37.949219 flask.XXXXXXXXXX > wing.XXXXXXXXXX: (frag 19254:1480@31080+) 10:06:37.950451 flask.XXXXXXXXXX > wing.XXXXXXXXXX: (frag 19254:1480@29600+) 10:06:37.951683 flask.XXXXXXXXXX > wing.XXXXXXXXXX: (frag 19254:1480@28120+) 10:06:37.952918 flask.XXXXXXXXXX > wing.XXXXXXXXXX: (frag 19254:1480@26640+) 10:06:37.954149 flask.XXXXXXXXXX > wing.XXXXXXXXXX: (frag 19254:1480@25160+) 10:06:37.955382 flask.XXXXXXXXXX > wing.XXXXXXXXXX: (frag 19254:1480@23680+) 10:06:37.956613 flask.XXXXXXXXXX > wing.XXXXXXXXXX: (frag 19254:1480@22200+) 10:06:37.957844 flask.XXXXXXXXXX > wing.XXXXXXXXXX: (frag 19254:1480@20720+) 10:06:37.959076 flask.XXXXXXXXXX > wing.XXXXXXXXXX: (frag 19254:1480@19240+) 10:06:37.960307 flask.XXXXXXXXXX > wing.XXXXXXXXXX: (frag 19254:1480@17760+) 10:06:37.961539 flask.XXXXXXXXXX > wing.XXXXXXXXXX: (frag 19254:1480@16280+) 10:06:37.962775 flask.XXXXXXXXXX > wing.XXXXXXXXXX: (frag 19254:1480@14800+) 10:06:37.964006 flask.XXXXXXXXXX > wing.XXXXXXXXXX: (frag 19254:1480@13320+) 10:06:37.964337 flask.XXXXXXXXXX > wing.XXXXXXXXXX: (frag 19255:368@32560) - -- Steve Williams "The woods are lovely, dark and deep. steve at XXXXXXXXXX But I have promises to keep, http://www.XXXXXXXXXX and lines to code before I sleep, http://www.picturel.com And lines to code before I sleep." -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.0.7 (GNU/Linux) Comment: Using GnuPG with Mozilla - http://enigmail.mozdev.org iD4DBQFALmdrrPt1Sc2b3ikRAo5SAJiRKGGb3nrwKSASSS8i+FwZOkE5AKCnxt+K e0FwZqin39DO0Pvr0QA8Eg== =5ghM -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----

More info: When I set the mount options in the Linux/i386 client to wsize=4096, it works. So I have a working setup, but now I wonder *why* that worked. -- Steve Williams "The woods are lovely, dark and deep. steve at XXXXXXXXXX But I have promises to keep, http://www.XXXXXXXXXX and lines to code before I sleep, http://www.picturel.com And lines to code before I sleep."
