VIA Sound problems after kernel upgrade

I have another problem with my Asus A8V board and SuSE 9.2 x86-64: with the kernel version that comes in the DVD the sound card is detected correctly and everything works perfect. After upgrading the kernel, every time I boot my workstation I have to go to a console, restart alsasound and then restart the X server. Without this I have no sound - while booting have the message that says that the sound module is already installed.... Any solution for this? Alex

I'm currently not using the ALSA because with ALSA i have only 2.0 sound with my Realtek onboard and the OSS/Linux is running in 5.1 ;) but i think you have to set up the mixer volumes again after the kernel upgrade at least if the alsa-version is changed. take care that the alsasound service is executed while booting the system and if that doesn't work save the mixer settings manually with alsactl store; if this all isn't enough try restoring the settings with alsactl restore after the next boot up and at this to a startup skript. ok, something of this have to work regards, Franz ___________________________________________________________ Gesendet von Yahoo! How did you get that to work? I installed OSS/Linux a month or so back, because I wanted 3D sound in Doom3 :-) and alsa dosn't work in Doom3 here. But I only had Stereo in OSS? I do have 5.1 sound in Alsa though, I just have to direct the sound through the surround51 pcm device, instead of the default one.
