having the same problem here (same platform). My solution has been to configure the sound in Yast2 (sound module) after each reboot. Somehow the configuration isn't 'sticking'.

I have an Acer Aspire 1501LCe laptop running 9.1 x86_64 XP3000+ at 1800 Mhz with kernel kernel.org 2.6.6-mm1. I have onboard snd_via82xx working. With earlier kernels I had some problems with sound breaking up
