Hi --
I just upgraded my asus sk8v to four GB of RAM (dual-boot with Windows and Suse 9.1 worked fine with two GB of RAM). Windows boots and shows two GB of RAM. However 9.1 (AMD 64) hangs from both the installation CD and the hard disk. I may have misconfigured the hardware but I thought it was strange that Windows would boot and 9.1 wouldn't. Any suggestions?
Windows allocates memory the other way round from Linux (Windows from bottom to top, Linux from top to bottom) This way if the high memory is broken Windows will get farther than Linux, but likely Windows will crash eventually too when you use enough memory. I would suggest memtest86 to check if the memory is ok and if not replace it. -Andi
