Just to follow up on my previous posting... my stability issues turned out to be memory related. I recently upgraded to DDR400 RAM and it looks like this was the cause of the problem. As soon as I switched back to DDR333 the system was stable again. Mark Mark Horton wrote:
I have a similar problem. I too suspected the nvidia driver but it could be something else. Basically my X session freezes and the system becomes unresponsive. I can't even ssh into it. Nothing is written to system logs that I can find.
I'm using a tyan s2885 with 4gb ram, geforce 5200, and suse 9.0 kernel 2.4.21-211-smp.

Hey Susers (what is Suseonians better?),
I still have frequent system halts/crashes due to what appears to be the NVidia driver.
Does anyone else have this? Do we just put up with it for now? I feel like I'm a Windows user rebooting my damn machine all the time. (2x tonight). Interestingly enough, my Debian server w/older hardware hasn't been shut off in well over 6 months. :)
