big machine

      We're about to start looking for a big machine (compared to the ones
that we have now).
We're thinking about something with 4 processors and 16 or 32GB RAM.  Are there
any motherboards and/or configurations that we need to be careful to
avoid because
they won't work with SuSE 9.2?

Any other tips on selecting a big machine?  The machine will be running EDA jobs
(sometimes concurrently, but only a few at once), each reading in a
ton of data and
manipulating it in memory, then writing it back out.
