SuSE 10.1: ac97 problems

Hi, There seems to be a problem with the ac97 microphone input. I tried two different microphones (one active, one passive) with two different ac97 cards (one ATI RS48x, the other NForce4), and all combinations produce a high-pitched whistle. The same microphones on a Creative SoundBlaster E10K sound perfectly fine.
