I assume SuSE 9.2 will not have any problems on the Opteron...

opteron has the same instruction set as athlon64/fx. the only differences between all the processors are built-in-memory-controllers (dualchannel, singlechannel), cache sizes, bus speeds, frequency and multiprocessing capabilities.
