The power supplies in these machines are 550W I can't give you any real definitive answer on 9.2, as I have just started to try it out. However, everytime I have tried upgrading my BIOS, I run into problems that make me drop back to v1.02 until I can get some time to just work on this machine steadily to try and figure things out ... I've also got some font issues on 9.2 (even on the 32-bit version on a Pentium4), possibly due to the move from XFree86 to Xorg in 9.2 ? I just can't make the jump yet, until several little issues get worked out so that my workstation will be usable on 9.2.... I'm only planning on having just 2 GB RAM. So I would assume any possible conflicts / problems are due to the version of the BIOS and the kernel version? Not any problems between the Tyan motherboard and the nVidia card? So I should not upgrade the BIOS if I want to use SuSE 9.2? BTW: What sise PSU yo have? Thank you VERY MUCH again... ________________________________________ Ricardo R Palma SYNOPSIS SA Telef. We are running the Tyan S2885/Nvidia combo with 16 Gb of memory in production, but we are still running Suse 9.0 and an older BIOS for the motherboard for production work: v1.02 BIOS SuSE 9.0 ( I am running the 2.4.21-193 or 2.4.21-243 kernel) Nvidia 1.0-6629 driver I have tried loading Suse 9.1 and 9.2 to get to the 2.6 kernel, but in the little bit of testing that I have been able to do, going to the new v2.02 BIOS for this board made the system unable to boot Suse 9.1, and had to do some contortions to get 9.2 to boot. Have been doing some testing this morning, and the v2.02 BIOS, Suse 9.2, Nvidia combo has been very unstable. Anytime I try to run my OpenGL testing program, either the X server locks up, or I get a screen full of garbage and have to reset the machine. Don't know if it is specific to Suse or not, but I may try Fedora to see if I have the same problems.... Hello, Anybody tried the above combination, with a dual Opteron config? I'm thinking about putting up a system based on Tyan S2885 (thunder K8W) and the graphics card I like the most is the BFG GeForce 6800 Ultra OC. Any ideas? Thanks in advance for your help.

If you are thinking about ever having 4 or more GB of RAM, I'd stay away from the Tyan S2885 - see my thread 'System memory missing - AGP card taking it?' -- Check the List-Unsubscribe header to unsubscribe For additional commands, email: suse-amd64-help@suse.com -- Check the List-Unsubscribe header to unsubscribe For additional commands, email: suse-amd64-help@suse.com
