I have an office server that has been running SuSE since 6.4. It now has 9.3 i386 installed and working fine. The other day the ide controller started going on the motherboard. I decided to replace it with an amd64 based board. I have been running x86_64 at home since 9.1, so I have a few years experience with x86_64, but I thought I would ask this list before I try something stupid. I would love to install the x86_64 version. Can I just pop in the 9.3 DVD and do an upgrade install of 9.3 x86_64 over top of the present 9.3 i386 install? Thanks for any insight and experiences you might give.
I'm afraid an update wont work. You;ll have to do a new install. And I also recommend using a newer version. A lot has been improved since 9.3... BB
