Hi- I have a HP zv5000z (about the same thing) which works well for my needs on both Linux SUSE 9.0 9.1 amd64 and XP Pro with cygwin. Graphics are well supported on 9.1 with Nvida drivers (I haven't tried sound). There is a forum on the zv5000v at http://www.notebookreview.com/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=713 and I think one on the Compaq as well. I do have some issues which you might consider: 1.) The 80GB drive is - slow 4200 rpm 2.) The SD slot quit working (I havw SD on usb so no worries) 3.) The touchpad paint? wore off after about 2 months. (works fine but ain't pretty) 4.) Right mouse button does not work as crisply as I would like (this happened after about a month) 5.) I got an upgrade to 2GB ram Friday- I gives kernel panic on 9.1 and blue screen of death on windows. Vendor says its guaranteed but I'll find out tomorrow. My first up grade from 1/4GB to 1.25GB from same vendor went perfect but the second sodimm is not the same as my first. I should have HP fix 2 and 4 but I travel a lot. I would buy the unit again ($1100 from best buy after rebates + $330 for 1st 1gb sodimm + $270 for 2nd crashing sodimm(which I assume they will fix)) Hope this helps Regards Bob -----Original Message----- From: emir limar [mailto:emirlimar@lycos.com] Sent: Monday, September 06, 2004 10:23 AM To: suse-amd64@suse.com Subject: [suse-amd64] Advise for Compaq R3240US hi i was considering to buy a Compaq Presario R3240US .
